On September 30 Turar Ryskulov New Economic University (Almaty, Kazakhstan) hosted an international scientific and practical conference organized within the framework of EU Tempus project. The main goal of the conference was to disseminate the information on the outcomes of the People project.

This three-year project, involving 12 partner universities from 6 countries, is already in its second year of implementation. Its goals include improving competencies of top and middle-level management in higher educational institutions through developing human resource management and staff development strategies.

Among the conference participants were the representatives of partner universities as well as the Head of Kazakhstan “Erasmus +” Office, representatives of the Ministry of Education of Kazakhstan, Almaty local government and several local public institutions. Prof. Lela Kelbakiani made a very interesting presentation at the plenary session held in the first part of the international conference. The topic of the plenary “HR Organization and Management in Higher Educational Institutions of Georgia” and its presentation, combining comprehensive coverage of the material and impressive delivery by our professor, caused a lot of interest. It was followed up by a long question and answer session with representatives of former Soviet states (Armenia and Kazakhstan) taking an especially active part and expressing their surprise and admiration for the progress achieved in the sphere of education in Georgia in recent years.

In the second part of the day the conference worked in two parallel sections. The second representative of Kutaisi University, Elguja Deisadze was involved in the work of one of these sections entitled “Quality and Strategy in Human Resources”. He presented the audience with information on the recently developed directions of the University’s strategic plan in human resources, its operational goals and objectives demonstrating key performance indicators and other relevant parameters. Strategic plan of HR development at Kutaisi University was developed using up-to-date methodology suggested by the experts from our partner universities at Barcelona and Lisbon trainings.
